| Please pray. A friend, Amanda Pudvah, who went to Austria with my group in Spring 07, died Sunday afternoon of pneumonia. Keep her family in your prayers as well.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

| I'm 21 today. I bought myself my first beers in the US--a Chimay from Belgium and a Stiegl from Austria (<3). Haven't actually had them yet, though. But I'm glad I can finally legally drink in the US--'twas a hard wait after having been to Austria, though it's not like I never had any ever. Still, it's kinda fun :)

| This semester is going by so quickly--I turn around and it's almost done. It sucks, but at the same time I'm really excited to get home soon--only a few more weeks! Warm weather (it may be 60 at home, but it's 35 here), my family, all kinds of fun.
I'm staying at school for Thanksgiving again. At first, I was sort of disappointed--stuck here in Steubie while all my friends are gone? But then I realized, some of my friends will be here and it won't be that bad--plus, I can get some work done. My roommate left recently for Thanksgiving--a whole week early. So I'll be at home alone this whole time...it's sort of weird, since I'm used to having people with me, and I don't always feel the safest at my house. My landlord cracked a joke about how if someone really wanted to come in all they had to do was break the window in the door and unlock it, and that sort of set me on edge. Good job on that, ey?
I'm glad I haven't had any big major crushes this semester--it's usually a semestral occurance but this semester I've been spared that. Praise Jesus, because I couldn't have handled that with my workload being the way it is. I'm just glad I don't have to do 18 units again.
I'm dropping catechetics--I've decided I'm not called to it, and such things should be left to those who are. I'm going to graduate with theology and eventually go to school for music--I was thinking I might have to go back to undergrad (barf) but Prof Keenan, the voice instructor, said it's possible to go straight to grad school. I don't know how comfortable I would feel, though--it's a tough major already without being on uneven footing from lack of formal preparation. But since I'm doing this because I feel God calling me to it, I'm sure things will work themselves out--they tend to do so when you follow His will, which I hope I'm doing right now.

| I miss Austria so much, it hurts.

| So I was wandering around the Internet one time and I searched Catholicism in Korea...for those of you who don't know the origins of Korean Catholicism, it's worth a look--it's unique in that Korea was the only country where Catholicism wasn't brought in by evangelization, but sort of sprung up within the country independent of missionaries.
I like to say that Catholicism is in my blood because one of my ancestors (on my mom's side) was one of the scholars that formed the little "book club" that converted to Catholicism after reading some Church documents and stuff in the late 18th century. I found this out one year when books of the genealogy of our family on my mom's side was presented to her brothers (only to the sons--boo) and my mom mentioned it. It's pretty cool, eh? He knew that the government was onto him (the government at the time was heavily persecuting Catholics--some things never change, do they) and knew that if he was proven a Catholic, then not only would he be put to death but his entire family. So he locked himself in a room with no food or water and allowed himself to die in there to protect his family. I think, anyway--it's been a while since I've heard the story, and some things might've gotten lost in translation. Anyway, he isn't one of the canonized Korean martyrs, but he's still highly significant to the story.
While I was surfing, I came upon this site, the Office of the Prime Minister of Korea, and found the page on the Christian movement in Korea. Yi Byeok--there's his name! I was stunned--I honestly thought that there had been like a big gathering of scholars rather than such a small group and didn't expect to see him mentioned by name. It was pretty fantastic, I got really excited about the whole ordeal.
Anyway, that's my story.
